AP Tests That Will Go Digital in May 2025

Starting in May 2025, standard paper testing will be discontinued for 28 AP Exams, which will transition to the Bluebook digital testing platform. As communicated to the AP community, the AP Program is speeding up the shift to digital testing to maintain the security of AP Exams.

• Students will complete their exams using the Bluebook app, while AP coordinators and proctors will manage and oversee the digital exams through the Test Day Toolkit web application.
• Paper exams for these subjects will be available only to students who have been granted special approval by the College Board to take a paper version of the digital assessments.
• For math, science, and economics exams that involve graphing or symbolic notation, students will view the free-response questions in the Bluebook app but will write their answers in physical exam booklets.
• All schools, including those outside the United States, are required to administer these 28 AP Exams digitally.
• If offered by the school, late-testing exams for these subjects will also be administered in digital format.

Digital AP Exam Subjects 

Of the 28 digital exams in 2025, 16 will be fully digital and 12 will be hybrid digital.  

Fully Digital Subjects

Students complete both multiple-choice and free-response questions in the Bluebook app, with all answers being automatically submitted once the exam ends.

Students answer multiple-choice questions and view free-response prompts in the Bluebook app, but handwrite their free-response answers in paper booklets, which are then submitted for scoring.
