Here is all you need to know about how to apply to the universities in the USA.

The USA has a lot of top universities. Also, according to QS World University Rankings 2022, the top four universities in the world are located in the USA. These four universities are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Harvard University, and California Institute of Technology (CALTECH).

The USA has its own requirements for the admission process. Furthermore, the difficulties of the admission process reflect the high standard of education in the USA. 

1. Resume

When you are talking about how to apply to the universities in the USA, this requirement is among the most important. You should start compiling a resume early on. This resume can contain the various awards you have received and your volunteering experiences during school. To make your resume attractive, you can start volunteering and start personal projects as early as possible.


To study in the USA, you are also required to take the IELTS or TOEFL test. The purpose of this test is to test your level of English proficiency. As a student who will attend a university in the USA, of course, you will carry out the learning process in English. You can get IELTS or TOEFL scores from several institutions that provide these services. There are many institutions in Indonesia that provide IELTS or TOEFL tests. Moreover, this requirement is a must if you want to study in the USA.

3. School Transcript

Your grade transcript is a collection of all your grades during your time in school. This document covers your overall grades from Grade 9 until you graduate. The purpose of this document is to provide the university staff with an overview of your academic performance during school. So, make sure you study hard from the start!

4. SAT or ACT

The SAT/ACT is the entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. Therefore, the purpose of the SAT/ACT is to measure a high school student's academic readiness for college and to provide a common data point with which to compare all applicants. Although it is not required, you are suggested to take the SAT to differ yourself from other applicants.

5. Recommendation Letter

Additionally, a college recommendation letter is a letter of support for your acceptance at the university you are aiming for. This letter of recommendation contains a brief formal statement that should highlight your positive qualities and explain why you will be successful in your college studies. In addition, you need to have 2 - 3 letters of recommendation to maximize your chance to get into university in the USA.

6. Essay

As part of the application process, most USA universities require applicants to write several short essays on themselves or a specified topic. These essays allow you to express yourself clearly and give admissions examiners a clearer sense of how well you would fit in at the institution.

7. Interview

The last requirement to study in the USA is an interview with the admissions staff. The purpose of the interview is for the admissions staff to get to know and assess you firsthand.
